Southern Oregon Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters
Welcome to the online home of Siskiyou Decorative Artists, the southern Oregon chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters.
We urge anyone interested in decorative painting to join us in developing their skills and meeting new friends.
If you would like to check us out in person, we welcome you to attend a chapter meeting & paint-in as a guest. You can attend as a guest twice, and we would love to meet you!
Our chapter meets at the Live Oak Grange in Rogue River, Oregon. We usually meet on the fourth Saturday of each month, but please check the Calendar page for specific dates and meeting times.
We offer a variety of classes and seminars in several different mediums taught by both local and travel teachers. Please enjoy your visit to our website and come back often!
In order that we may safely hold chapter meetings again, we have implemented a temporary protocol to follow during these COVID-19 times. These measures will be in effect until our state is declared open by the governor. The measures to be followed at all indoor chapter functions include:
Each person is responsible for providing her own table. If you are unable to do so, let someone on the board know so we can help set up a Grange table for you. If you use a Grange table, you must cover it. We have thin table coverings available to purchase for $1 and they can be cut in half for two uses.
There will be no shared snacks or desserts.
Each person is responsible to collect and take home her own trash, including any trash from lunch. Bring a small trash bag to keep at your table.
Lunch should be eaten at your own table.
When you are seated at your own table, you don't need to wear your face mask. However, whenever you leave your table you must wear a face mask.
We will continue to hold our monthly raffles. All raffle items will be sprayed with a sanitary spray, and we ask that no one handle the items.
We hope these precautions are short-lived. We are trying to maintain a consistent policy until we are pandemic free. A healthy painter is a happy painter!
We have some wonderful travel teachers scheduled to teach two day seminars next year. Be sure to mark your calendars and save the dates. You don't want to miss them! More information will be posted as it becomes available.
2022 Painting Conventions
Saturday, January 22 - 10:00 a.m. - Live Oak Grange, Rogue River - We plan to start the new year off with a "Back to Basics" painting clinic. Several board members will be teaching and reviewing some basic painting techniques and information such as Brush Basics and Care, Stroke Work techniques, Floating techniques, information about Painting Mediums and how to use them, and Specialty Brush information and techniques.
Chapter members should bring a couple of surfaces such as matte board or poster board that has been sealed and painted a solid color. This will provide a good practice surface. Also bring some paint, your brushes and your regular painting supplies. Be sure to bring a good sized flat or angle brush for sideloading along with a mop brush if you have one, and a round or two for doing strokes. If you attended the chapter Christmas party, be sure to bring the brushes you received there. We hope to make this a fun and informative day!
Please bring your own table, lunch and snacks. Plan to wear your mask whenever you aren't seated at your own table.
Saturday, March 26 - 10:00 a.m. - Live Oak Grange, Rogue River - Our own Cindy Hayashi will be teaching this lovely address banner painted on Roclon fabric and designed by Chris Thornton-Deason. The line drawing and prep instructions can be downloaded on the Members Only page along with a photo of what the piece looks like when prepped for class and ready to paint.
Seminar with Paulette DiGesare - April 23 & 24, 2022 - We are looking forward to having Paulette DiGesare teach these two beautiful projects during a two-day seminar in April. This will be an "in person" seminar in Rogue River, Oregon.
This seminar is now open to non-chapter members. Your registration fee includes two project surfaces, all paint and catered lunches. The registration form for this seminar can be downloaded below. We will be limiting this seminar to 25 students, so be sure to get your registration in soon! The deadline to register is February 1.
Saturday, May 21 - 10:00 a.m. - Live Oak Grange, Rogue River - Karen Damerow will be teaching this cute plaque using Tracy Moreau's weathered wood technique. The prep instructions and line drawing can be downloaded on the Members Only page.
